Christmas Paper Crafts

Wishing you all a most wonderful Christmas, eating holiday food, engaging in family traditions, and visiting family and friends!!

I finally got the courage to try my hand at one of these.  There are some.  The ones out there from other artists I've seen just made me swoon.  Mine not so much, but I learned a few things about the technique.  One, next time I'll use a fresher/newer book.  I used an older book which makes the pages a bit too delicate and the piece can get crushed with time, so a newer book will keep it looking fresh and crisp.  Two, you layer the cones on top of each other in neat rows instead of randomly as I did.  Use a glue gun to adhere the cones for quick work.

This one I will be gifting for Christmas.

I also finally decorated these trees which I had purchased last year for Christmas.  At first I had planned to all 3 in the same style.  I quickly changed my mind because it just seemed boring to me to do it that way.

The one thing that brought them all together was the glittered buttons on the bottom

This is a very cool idea for me being a night owl and otherwise unencumbered for New Year's Eve.  You might want to check it out too.  Sounds like a lot of fun.  I just found this blog through my Google alerts and it's super cute and pack full of inspirational paper crafts.  Go visit Paula's Palace and join in.

New Year's Giveaway

In celebration of the New Year, here's my giveaway.  I've been fortunate to have collected a large amount of stuff, especially lace so there'll be lots of that in the giveaway.  Printed pages from vintage books, and silk flowers yet to be added.  The photos shows some more of the stash.

Leave a comment for an entry, an additional entry given to those that comment and are following this blog.  Added: You have until January 16.

This is a piece I created with a frame back which has a black velvety backing.

Thanks for stopping by.  I can't believe I'm up to 32 followers; you're sure good for my ego.  Good luck everyone.

Girls and Dresses

I'm still struggling with computer trouble so I can't post my latest creations. These are older projects I worked on. I'm almost finished my altered book from the online class and will post that as soon as I am able to.
This cute little dress is a paper form I got at Michael's. I covered in paper first, then adhered ric- rac, fabric, buttons, velvet ribbon and fabric rose. This sweet girl wall hanging, was adhered on a backing from an old frame that came apart. Very sturdy substrate and the back is covered in a velvety black fabric. The striped background is a piece of wallpaper, then a decoupage tissue square and book page circle. Of course, some lace and bows. It hangs on a piece of lace as well. Don't you love that old key! I got that at an antique shop this past winter as part of a set of 3. I'm thinking of offering this piece for sale.

Thrift Shop Saturday

Here's more to my lace and trim addiction. I did keep it a small selection. And the brass rings, I thought I would use as hangers for some of my pieces, if I ever get creating again, that is. Got one of these pedestal glass bowls before, don't remember when, but I saw 4 more at my local thrift shop this Saturday, so I picked them up too for .75ea. Love pedestal containers!!
Love the beige shading of these buttons.
A cute and simple hankie for my collection. So unique, I thought.
Not something I would pick up (too country for me), but I just so loved the dainty blue flower edging on this. I might cut that out to use in my art, that was my thought.
A satin baby pillow I couldn't resist getting. It might fit my travel pillow which I keep in my car and what an elegant and pleasing cover for it.
For my pedestal collection. I'm not generally a fan of this green, but for $1 it would have been foolish to lrave behind.
Love the dish and the shells; the whole package $2.50. Alright!! The question is: use the shells in my art or live this as is to display? I can't wait for some beach time and this visual is just wonderful. I might take the littlest ones to use. Usually my favorite ones are the small ones.

Well, it was a fun Saturday. I haven't done much thrifting lately and I was just dying to. Its always such a high for me.Now to get into one of my favorite places for inspiration, aside from blogland, Somerset.
And I'm so lucky to now have a subscription thanks to my mother in law. My first Somerset Studio issue arrived, YEA!!

Bits & Bubbles Swap

What I'm sending to my partner, Kathy:
Bits of fabric, ribbon, lace, ephemera
Buttons, fibers, leather cord
Music sheets, scrapbook papers, wallpaper border, a paper butterfly I painted in gold paint and glittlered the edges
Malissa Rose of Sleepy Hollow Folk Art Originals is hosting this swap and has asked that we post photos of what's being sent and received. This is my first of such swaps and its been so much fun gathering things for my partner and I'm excited to see what surprise goodies are coming. I think a supplies swap are the best! Thanks, Malissa for organizing this and doing a fabulous job for your first time hosting a swap.
